Pitting of the Nails Plates
Some persons develop very minute depressions on the surface of the nail-plate. Such depressions (called 'pits') are characteristically seen in patients having psoriasis or alopecia areata (patchy loss of hair), but may also be seen if the skin covering the proximal part of the nail-plate and the nail-matrix is affected by a dermatitic (inflammatory) process. Sometimes, a few pits can appear in a completely normal individual.
Pitting of the Nails Plates does not require any special treatment. The treatment of the original Pitting of the Nails Plates responsible for pitting will be sufficient for the nail also. The pits can be masked by applying a nail polish.
