Longitudinal Striations
Some Longitudinal Striations patients develop ridges on the nail-plate which extend longitudinally from the proximal end of the nail-plate to the distal edge. The adjoining ridges may be interspersed with furrows between the ridges. One or a few ridges are often produced by an injury to the nail-matrix, but when the ridging involves the entire nail-plate it may be completely inconsequential, especially if Longitudinal Striations is associated with old age.
In most cases the longitudinal striations require no treatment; these can be concealed by applying a nail polish or by wearing artificial nails or manicuring the nail-plate.
