Blackheads

blackhead is a yellowish or blackish bump or plug on the skin. The other name of Blackheads is open comedones, skin coloured are flat, darkened spots that form when pores become clogged with a mixture of sebum (or oil) and dead skin cells there are two types of blackheads. First of all, when it develops it's called whiteheads - but as they come into contact with the atmospheric oxygen, a chemical reaction takes place and the mixture darkens and turns to blackheads. Open comedones are blackheads black because of surface pigment (melanin) rather than dirt. It is caused by a small plug of keratin and sebum within a hair follicle that is blackened at the surface in the opening of a follicle. Closed comedones are whiteheads; the follicle is completely blocked blackheads are very hard to prevent because of the skin's constant sebum production and cell turnover. Blackheads are not caused by dirt on the surface of the skin, and oil on the surface of the skin usually does no harm.

Blackheads and especially whiteheads are promoted by dark appearance is caused by the densely packed skin cells, which take on a dark colour excessive cellular exfoliation. Blackheads are small, dark spots which are the collections of oil and debris that clog pores. Since skin pores are open to the air, the top part of the hardened sebum or oil oxidizes, turning black. Blackheads are a mixture of dead cells of the skin, oil and bacteria.Blackheads are the primary lesions in acne. For some people this is not the case however, and they may continue to experience blackheads and whiteheads well past puberty and into adulthood. Whiteheads are formed the same way as blackheads with the exception that the pore is closed and the oxidation does not occur. Their dark appearance is caused by the densely packed skin cells, which take on a dark color. A term used to describe the skin's pores clogged by natural oils and impurities. It is formed when oil and dead skin cells become trapped in a pore and mix with bacteria. They are called open comedones because blackheads are open to the skin's surface and become darkened at the surface by exposure to oxygen (oxidation).

Genetics may certainly be to blame. Barely visible on those prone to drier skin, individuals with oily, thicker (glabrous) skin tend to have larger looking, more noticeable pores. This is often hereditary.

Treatment of Blackheads

Take about 1 tsp of juice extracted from fresh coriander leaves and add ½ tsp of turmeric powder in it. Apply this mixture while going to bed. Wash your face the next morning with cold water.
Salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzyl peroxide, etc. can be counter-productive to softening and dissolving blackheads and whiteheads as they can dehydrate dry, normal and combination skin
Oral Antibiotics (tablets ), such as tetracycline, can be prescribed for inflammatory blackheads.
Help stop or slow the growth of bacteria and reduce inflammation.
Make a paste by mixing 1 tsp limejuice and 1 tsp of finely powdered cinnamon. Apply it on the affected area before going to bed. Wash it off in the morning.
A drug named " adapalene " does wonder in reducing the blackhead formation by stimulation of skin growth through modulation of cellular differentiation and keratinization of follicular epithelial cells, i.e. it encourages skin peeling.
Apply a paste of gram flour and curd on the affected area. When the mixture hardens and dries up, gently scrap off with your finger tips and wash the face.
