Body Acne

Body acne is common in adults and teens, showing up mostly on the chest, back and buttocks. Like facial acne, stress and hormones can cause blemishes. The main cause of body acne is the over secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Acne is an inflammation of the pores, so it makes sense that anywhere on the body where there are a lot of pores, there's a chance of developing pimples. Men, women, teens and adults alike are all susceptible to body acne. Just like facial acne, back and chest acne are very common because there are so many sebaceous glands on these parts of the body. It can be a sign of more severe acne when the lesions are large and painful. The pores of the skin on the body are different from the face. They are far bigger and active. Perspiration and tight-fitting clothing are two of the most common culprits, which explains why many physically active women are plagued by body acne. Many people who have body acne have facial acne as well as acne on other parts of their bodies. Body acne can range from fairly mild outbreaks to severe skin problems characterized by red, painful, pus-filled lesions.

Body acne is not always easy to treat, especially on the hard-to-reach back area, and can often times be more difficult to treat than facial acne because body skin is thicker. Acne on the body is more prevalent in some areas than others. Body acne can appear in the form of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, pustules, and cysts or legions, which can not only be pesky, but also painful. If you get acne in a certain area on your body more than others, it may be coincidence, or it may be an external irritant. Hormonal imbalances are a common cause behind development of almost all types of acne. Stress also contributes toward hormonal imbalances and hindrance to the body fluids which can result in excessive formation of toxics. Treatments for body acne are similar to those for facial acne, but body acne tends to be more resistant to treatment because it is difficult to reach. To keep acne under control, wash daily with a salicylic-acid-based cleanser, and be sure to shower as soon as possible after perspiring. Use a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide spot treatment on individual pimples at night.
