Microdermabrasion for Acne Scar

Microdermabrasion is a popular new technique designed to gently remove acne scars. Microdermabrasion is not recommended for anyone who has taken Accutane within the past six months, as there is risk of creating scars and injury. There are two main methods of microdermabrasion: surgical procedures and home kits. Microdermabrasion surgery technique uses a wire brush or a diamond wheel to remove the upper layers of the skin. With microdermabrasion for acne scar removal, the plastic surgeon uses a device similar to a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. The effects of microdermabrasion can be enhanced by combining this therapy with light chemical peels. Patients with sensitive skin may experience some irritation during the microdermabrasion procedure. This is usually minor. Microdermabrasion acne scar removal treatments cost an average of $100 per session. With an average number of treatments between ten and fifteen, the cost is still significatly cheaper than the use of laser treatments to remove scars. Due to the non-invasive nature of microdermabrasion, the procedure only removes superficial layers of the skin.
